The best DIY carpet cleaning can be simple, depending on the age and how dirty (or stained) your carpet may be. If you want to do a SIMPLE carpet cleaning job, all you have to do is to get the right detergent or carpet cleaner and use a wet vacuum then simply dry it. If your carpet has spots (pets?) you can try the PET OXYGEN STAIN REMOVER (Walmart); or SPOT REMOVER. BISSELL RESOLVE is another totally good product for cleaning your carpet.
What about those who wish to TRY non-chemical products? Guess what? The BEST is still Baking Soda (yes, Arm and Hammer) and some swear that works... some even mix the Baking Soda with a vinegar and water solution and resort to "elbow grease" (manually washing the carpet) to get the carpet clean. Wet the carpet apply Baking Soda (with vinegar if you wish) and lauder the carpet. Set it out to dry (yes, you can use the sun -- conserve energy!) If you're really in a RUSH however, the best is still to use a steam vacuum to make sure that your carpet is completely sanitized.
Tip : Do it before the Holiday season so you do NOT have to do a RUSH JOB!
